COSMOS 1939: Georges Salles / Walter Benjamin

The exhibition entitled COSMOS 1939: Georges Salles / Walter Benjamin opens a new perspective on the relationship between these two thinkers. Monochromes, lithographs and drawings by the French artist Jean Michel Alberola form a sensitive network between historical objects from the zoological collection of the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Archenhold Observatory, the archives of the Academy of Arts and the Gisèle Freund Archive, IMEC and videos by the artists Aura Rosenberg and Frances Scholz. The exhibition also brings together the 53 books that Benjamin read in 1939, which he included in his personal reading list. One of them, Le Regard (2001) by Georges Salles, offers the starting point for this artistic - philosophical reflection.
